The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the European electronic communications markets. As lockdown measures were introduced across the European Union as of spring 2020, the demand for electronic communications services and electronic communications networks spiked significantly. The crisis has clearly demonstrated that connectivity is essential and a “must-have” for all sectors of society. Since the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic, the European Commission and the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communication were committed to participate to the collective effort to support individuals and businesses to continue their activities and maintain contacts as best as possible through the Internet, during these unprecedented times.
