BEREC to hold an online workshop on digital network developments

The digital market is a constantly evolving landscape undergoing significant transformation. BEREC continues to monitor developments in digital markets and emerging electronic communication services to anticipate any potential regulatory needs in a fast-changing environment. 
On 14 March 2024, from 10:00- 11:00 CET, BEREC will host an online workshop inviting stakeholders to share their insights and ideas on the future of digital networks – in terms of both players and strategies.

Input into ongoing work
The BEREC Chair, Tonko Obuljen, will open the online workshop and introduce event’s speakers to the audience. During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to learn about BEREC’s ongoing work related to cloud and edge computing services and the entry of large content and application providers onto the market for electronic communications networks and services. On 13 March, BEREC will launch public consultations on these two draft reports and publish the notices on its website. The Co-Chairs of the Planning and Future Trends Working Group and the Digital Markets Working Group encourage sharing insights on digital network developments and welcome any comments or suggestions on relevant topics. This input will help finalize essential documents.

New trends and cloudification, virtualization, and softwarisation in telecoms
Along with the draft BEREC documents, the workshop presents an opportunity to learn more about the BEREC-commissioned study on the trends and cloudification, virtualization and softwarisation in telecommunications. This forward-looking study describes the current technical and market trends, including competitive dynamics along the value chain, in providing electronic communications networks and services stemming from the virtualization and cloudification of network elements. The study gathers relevant information with the aim of identifying potential regulatory and policy challenges.

This virtual workshop will be hosted via WEBEX. To participate and receive dial-in details, register by noon (CET) on 13 March 2024. The workshop will be recorded and the recording will be published on both the BEREC website and its YouTube channel.
