COMMON STATEMENT

On 13 December 2012, Vice-President Kroes met with Dr. Leonidas Kanellos, the Chair of the Greek National Regulatory Authority, EETT, and the upcoming BEREC Chair for 2013 to discuss topical issues of common interest for the Commission and BEREC in the coming year.

"I would like to express my full support to Dr. Kanellos as the BEREC Chair for 2013. BEREC enters shortly in its 4th year and we both look forward to deepening our collaboration. Dr. Kanellos, in line with the conclusions of the BEREC Malta Plenary last week, confirmed the need for a coherent regulatory approach as critical for the sector. He outlined his commitment to a continued and constructive engagement and discussion with the Commission, and I highly appreciate that spirit", said Vice-President Kroes after the meeting.

"VP Kroes and I agreed that our most urgent common interest is to get Europe back to the forefront of digital economy, through enhancing broadband investments and promoting competition" confirmed Dr. Kanellos and continued by saying that "towards this purpose, BEREC and the Commission will closely work together on the draft Recommendation on non-discrimination and costing methodologies, which puts in practice the policy orientation announced by VP Kroes on 12 July 2012 and to finalising BEREC's opinion on the draft recommendation at its next Plenary in Slovenia in early March."
