On 23 October, ahead of the International Day Against Climate Change (24 October), the Director of the EU Agency for Support for BEREC (BEREC Office), Verena Weber, signed the EU Agencies Network (EUAN) Green Charter, reaffirming the BEREC Office’s commitment to stronger environmental sustainability and a greener institutional approach.

“The BEREC Office has already been guided by sustainability principles in its day-to-day work. By signing the EUAN Green Charter, we are reaffirming that commitment and taking it a step further.”

EUAN Green Charter

By signing the Charter, the BEREC Office joins other EU agencies and Joint Undertakings in taking the necessary steps towards achieving climate neutrality by 2030. The Charter supports the goals of the EU Green Deal and the wider EU ambition of making Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050.

The Green Charter sets out a common framework for improving environmental performance and using resources carefully in daily work. The parties commit to reducing their impact on the environment. They will systematically measure greenhouse gas emissions and prioritise action to reduce them, especially emissions linked to travel.

The Charter also promotes careful resource use, sustainable electronic solutions, green public procurement, and greater staff awareness of environmental best practices. It also commits to setting clear environmental goals, complying with environmental rules and sustainability reporting requirements, and providing the resources needed to put these commitments into practice.

The EUAN Green Charter endorsement is part of BEREC and the BEREC Office’s broader commitment to reducing the environmental footprint of their activities. This commitment is also reflected in their Greening Action Plan. It sets out measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the environmental performance of operations, such as more sustainable travel, online and hybrid meetings, greater energy and resource efficiency, waste reduction, and sustainable procurement.
