15th Plenary meeting in Athens - BEREC elects Chair 2014

At its second Plenary of 2013, BEREC elected its Chair for 2014, Goran Marby, Head of the Swedish regulator, PTS. Mr Marby will take up his post in January 2014, and until then will serve as a Vice-Chair.
BEREC also approved its 2012 annual report, as well as its most recent Termination Rates snapshot report.
Prior to its Plenary meeting, BEREC members participated in an informal exchange of views on the future of NGA in Europe. Topics covered included the role of regulators in achieving the Commission’s Digital Agenda targets, and the role of (and potential challenges posed by) vectoring in the delivery of high speed broadband services.
The 15th BEREC Plenary meeting took place in Athens, Greece, on 6-7 June 2013, and was the second Plenary meeting under the chairmanship of Leonidas Kanellos, president of Greek regulator EETT.

BEREC is composed of a Board of Regulators consisting of the Heads of the 27 national regulatory authorities (NRAs). BEREC advises the European Commission and its member NRAs, and assists the European Parliament and Council, on issues related to the application of the EU regulatory framework for electronic communications. BEREC seeks to ensure fair competition and consistency of regulation in the internal market for electronic communications, for the benefit of European consumers. In particular, it provides expert advice on market definitions, analysis and remedies, on the definition of transnational markets, and on crossborder disputes and numbering issues. BEREC also provides expert opinions on emerging challenges including the promotion of broadband, net neutrality and converging markets, and plays an active role in public discussions on these issues.
